Belleric is traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine. It is also known as Terminalia bellirica, bhibhitaki, belleric myrobalan, and bihara. This is a deciduous tree belonging to the Combretaceae family that grows throughout India and Southeast Asia. These fruits contain tannins that can be used to tan leather, make black and brown dyes, and serve as medicines. Ayurvedic and Siddha medicine utilizes this fruit as part of Triphala, a traditional formulation.
